Postpartum care has been overlooked for far too long, and we believe it’s time for a change. We’re leading a movement to redefine what real support looks like for new mothers, not just in the hospital, and not just in the first few days, but in the messy, exhausting, beautiful weeks and months that follow. We’re showing up in tangible ways: with nourishing food, mental health support, and hands-on help when it’s needed most. At Mother Hen, we believe that rest is not a luxury, nourishment is not optional, and no mother should ever feel forgotten.

The Nurtured Mama

A free six-week virtual group for mothers in the postpartum season. Every week brings connection, conversation, and professional support through the emotional transition into motherhood, from wherever you are.

Meet the Team

    Kali McCabe Mandile

    FOUNDER & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

    Kali McCabe Mandile is the founder of Mother Hen. She holds a degree in Social Work from the University of St. Thomas and completed the first NBHWC pediatric health coaching program in the country. Kali built Mother Hen to close a gap she saw firsthand in postpartum care access, ensuring support doesn't depend on a mother's ability to pay. Today, she leads the organization's programs, partnerships, and fundraising to expand that support to more mothers each year.

    Amy Swart, LICSW

    CLINICAL LEAD

    Amy Swart, MSW, LICSW, PMH-C, is the clinical lead behind The Nurtured Mama. She is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and holds her Perinatal Mental Health Certification through Postpartum Support International, a distinction held by a select group of clinicians with advanced training in maternal mental health. Since 2011, she has specialized in the emotional and psychological experience of pregnancy, postpartum, and new motherhood, bringing training in EMDR, DBT, CBT, and mindfulness-based approaches to her work. Amy developed The Nurtured Mama and leads every group herself, giving mothers practical, evidence-based tools to carry forward.

    Sara Torrence, RDN

    POSTPARTUM DIETITIAN

    Sara brings 10+ years of experience across payer, provider, and health system markets to her role leading Mother Hen's postpartum nutrition program. She's building meals grounded in both clinical nutrition expertise and real-world program strategy, designed to support healing, energy, and lactation for mothers in the postpartum period.

    Courtney Dallum, RN

    BOARD SECRETARY & COMMUNITY HEALTH LIAISON

    An ER nurse and active member of the Douglas County healthcare community, Courtney helps guide how Mother Hen connects with and shows up for local families.
